In Memory of   Watson D. Hartway    LtC  CAP
1927 - 2001

        Watson D. Hartway, age 74, of Centerline Road, Johnsonburg, died Tuesday July 24, 2001 at his home under Hospice Family Care.
        He was born April 15, 1927 in Barre, New York, a son of the late Warren and Minnie Kilner Hartway.
        A US Navy veteran serving from February 15, 1945 through July 19, 1946, he was recently awarded his high school diploma from Albion Central School as a result of the efforts of Project Recognition which honors World War II veterans who left school early in order to serve in the armed forces.
        He was a New York State Trooper out of Troop A for 22 years retiring in 1976 after which he worked as head of security at the Wyoming County Bank for 10 years retiring from there in 1993.
        He was a licensed private pilot and certified flight instructor (CFII) and gave private pilot lessons out of Perry-Warsaw Airport for over 30 years. He was also a licensed balloonist and towed gliders at the Dansville Airport. He was active in the Civil Air Patrol in both the Condor Composite Squadron out of Perry-Warsaw Airport and the Finger Lakes Group where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was also an active member of the Johnsonburg Conservation Club and the Wyoming County Wildlife Federation.
        He is survived by his wife: Marcia Bowen Hartway whom he married January 30, 1948; two sons: Terry Hartway of Warsaw, and James Hartway of Johnsonburg; three daughters: Joanne (Franklin) Dickes of of Johnsonburg, Elizabeth (John) Head of Henrietta, and Mary (Mark) Eckstein of Johnsonburg; three brothers: Warren (Annabelle) Hartway of Homosassa, FL, Lynn (Cathy) Hartway of Homosassa, FL, and Gordon (Evelyn) Hartway of Miami, FL; and eight grandchildren.
